Bruce Springsteen bashes Trump in letest song

 

Bruce Springsteen has collaborated with musician Joe Grushecky on a track that might make President Trump sad.

The protest tune titled, That’s What Makes Us Great, takes aim at Trump’s temporary immigration ban and falsehoods.

Grushecky revealed to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he invited The Boss to appear on the song he penned. “I sent it to him and he liked it,” Grushecky recalled. “I said, ‘What do you think about singing on it?’ He gave it the Bruce treatment.”

Grushecky told the news outlet that he was turned off of Trump “the moment he started making fun of special needs people. How could a person like that be president of the United States? Regardless of all the other (stuff), that to me is appalling. I have special needs people in my family and in my neighborhood. I worked with special needs people my whole life and I was really offended by it.”

Like many celebrities, Springsteen denounced Trump’s proposed immigration ban.

“Tonight we want to add our voices to the thousands of Americans who are protesting in airports around our country,” he said during a concert in Adelaide, Australia, in January. “The Muslim ban, the detention of foreign nationals and refugees — America is a nation of immigrants and we find this antidemocratic and fundamentally un-American.”

The singer also doubted Trump’s campaign promises during an episode of Marc Maron’s WTF podcast at the start of the year.

“I mean they’re lies, they can’t occur,” he said. “But if you’ve struggled for the past 30 or 40 years … and somebody comes along and offers you something else, particularly after you feel you’ve been failed by the two parties, it’s a compelling choice.”

The song’s lyrics preach a sense of unity and encourage acceptance.

“They come from everywhere / A longing to be free / They come to join us here / From sea to shining sea / And they all have a dream / As people always will / To be safe and warm / In that shining city on the hill / Some wanna slam the door / Instead of opening the gate / Aw, let’s turn this thing around / Before it gets too late / It’s up to me and you / Love can conquer hate / I know this to be true / That’s what makes us great”
